Hundwell is a purpose-driven platform dedicated to improving dog welfare through education, trusted services, and a centralized adoption network that brings together shelters and rescue organizations in one place. By making reliable resources more accessible, the platform helps promote responsible ownership and simplify the adoption process.

Working closely with the founder, I led the brand identity, communication strategy, information architecture and web design system, before helping turn the system into a live product through an AI-assisted development workflow using Lovable.

The Challenge

Dog welfare is fragmented and that is why Hundwell was founded, to make it feel connected. Finding a dog to adopt is only one part of responsible ownership. Families also need access to education, trainers, nutrition, healthcare and other trusted services throughout the dog's life.

The challenge was to bring these different needs into a single platform without creating an overwhelming experience, while building a brand that felt warm enough for a pet-focused audience and credible enough for professionals and shelters. The system also needed to be flexible from day one, allowing Hundwell to introduce new services, content and functionality as the platform evolved.

Defining the Experience

Hundwell needed to connect prospective adopters, dog owners, shelters and professionals, each with different goals and information needs. Mapping these journeys and analysing how similar platforms structured their services helped define the core ecosystem around three areas: adoption, education and trusted services.

This structure became the foundation for both the digital experience and the future growth of the platform.

Information Architecture

The information architecture established clear journeys across adoption, educational content and professional services while allowing each area to respond to different user needs.

Structured listings, filters and profiles made dogs and services easier to discover. The result was an architecture designed not only for the product Hundwell was building, but for the ecosystem it could become.

Building the Brand

Hundwell's identity balances the warmth of the canine world with the credibility needed from a platform built around responsible ownership.

The wordmark combines a clean, contemporary structure with a more expressive italic gesture, reflecting this balance between functional and human. A deep green anchors the identity, complemented by a vibrant orange and a flexible secondary palette used to organize information across the ecosystem. Illustrations the visual language, adding personality and warmth while creating a recognizable graphic resource that can adapt across communication and digital touchpoints.

From Design System to Live Product

The brand was translated into a modular web design system built around reusable components, typography hierarchies, cards, filters, navigation patterns and responsive behaviours.

Rather than stopping at handoff, the system was implemented alongside the founder using Lovable and an AI-assisted development workflow.

The established design rules guided implementation and iteration, allowing the platform to evolve quickly while maintaining consistency across different content types and functionalities.
