FutURe Project - Merck

Bringing younger generations into the conversations
shaping their future.

FutURe is a long-term initiative developed by Harmon for Merck to understand and amplify the priorities of younger generations, creating spaces for research, dialogue and participation around the issues shaping their future.

Harmon has led the project from its conception, working across strategy, research, engagement and activation. Design has supported that journey by giving FutURe a recognizable identity and a flexible communication system that continues to evolve across events, content and physical and digital touchpoints.

Joining Harmon as an intern, I was trusted to lead the design workstream only one month into the role — taking responsibility for the visual development of the initiative and its ongoing applications since 2024.

01 — Creating FutURe

FutURe began as an ambitious initiative to bring younger generations closer to the conversations shaping their future.

From its name — built around U R the future — we developed the foundations needed to turn that idea into a recognizable platform for dialogue.

The initial creative direction evolved to work within Merck's distinctive brand ecosystem, resulting in a dedicated visual system and guidelines that gave FutURe its own expression while remaining unmistakably connected to Merck.

02 — Designing for Complex Conversations

As FutURe evolved, design became a tool for translating research, ideas and conversations into accessible communication.

A flexible visual language was developed across infographics, reports, presentations, social content and event materials — creating hierarchy around complex information while maintaining a consistent FutURe presence.

Rather than relying on fixed templates, the system was designed to respond to new topics, formats and audiences as the initiative continued to evolve.

03 — From Initiative to Experience

Since 2024, FutURe has grown across research, Youth Roundtables, internal advocacy and events designed to bring younger voices into real conversations.

The design system has evolved alongside it, adapting across event environments, roll-ups, lecterns, screens, presentations, infographics and social communication while maintaining a coherent presence across every activation.

Leading the design workstream has meant taking each new need — from a single data visualization to an entire event environment — and finding the right expression within the same evolving system.

04 — Building Real Impact

From an idea to a growing European initiative.

Since its launch, FutURe has grown into an ongoing platform for dialogue, bringing younger generations into conversations with institutions, experts and decision-makers across Europe.

Through research, events and collaborative formats, the initiative continues to create spaces where young perspectives can be heard, shared and brought into the conversations shaping their future.
